Nürnberg vs. Hertha Berlin: Final score 2-2, Kiyotake rescues a point with last second free kick

Hiroshi Kiyotake rescued a point for Nürnberg against Hertha Berlin with a brilliant free kick.

Nürnberg needed a brilliant free kick in the dying seconds to secure a point at home against Hertha Berlin, but they got it and earned a 2-2 draw. The results puts Nürnberg on two points and Hertha on four points after two games.

After last week’s huge win by Hertha over Frankfurt, they were bubbling with confidence early in the match, but they weren’t able to really threaten the Nürnberg goal. The first real opportunity came for the hosts, when Daniel Ginczek smashed a header off the post from a Hiroshi Kiyotake free kick. Javier Pinola was also unable to beat Thomas Kraft in the Hertha goal.

Josip Drmic gave Nürnberg the lead just before halftime after a through ball from Ginczek. He shot around a diving Thomas Kraft to make it 1-0.

Hertha found their way back into the match in the 60th minute when Sami Allagui’s shot deflected off of Berkay Debanli and beat Raphael Schäfer. Hertha began to push numbers forward and earned a penalty in the 79th minute. Raffaell stepped up to the spot and sank the penalty to give Hertha the 2-1 lead.

With all hope looking lost, Kiyotake stepped up to take a free kick outside of the Hertha penalty area in the last few minutes of the game. Kiyotake struck the ball, and the ball hit the back of the net. The home supporters erupted, and Nürnberg earned a 2-2 draw.
