Juan Agudelo’s ridiculous half-volley just the highlight of great crop of MLS goals

It seems like the New England Revolution striker will be the runaway winner, but he’s got some good company.

We don’t normally write about things like “MLS Goal of the Week.” Why? Like any weekly award, it’s bound to be a bit of a forced competition as often as it’s legitimate.

This week is a rare exception. Sure, Juan Agudelo’s insane goal that he half volleyed over his head deserves to be the runaway winner. You’re not going to see anything like it in MLS or, possibly, anywhere else anytime soon. But what makes this week interesting is how many legitimately great goals there were. On any other week, any of the other four would have been deserving winners.

  • Federico Higuain had a pretty insane chip a week ago. Somehow, he managed to do it again this week. He's making it look too easy;
  • Marco Di Vaio's goal was impressive, but the touch that opened up the space is what I found to be the really beautiful par;
  • Giles Barnes' is an absolute bomb, lacing a shot from about 30 yards out;
  • Even Robbie Keane's goal, which completed his hat trick, was a cheeky little chip.

Not bad MLS, not bad.
