This transfer is definitely one of the odder ones we've seen in Serie A this summer. Alejandro Gómez has arguably been the star of Catania's great resurgence over the last few seasons, excelling out on the left flank for the elefanti as they've moved ever closer to European qualification. Last season he chipped in with eight goals, and hoped to win a call-up to Alejandro Sabella's Argentina squad.
Catania sell Alejandro Gómez to Metalist Kharkiv
Despite offers from big clubs around Europe, Catania’s Argentine winger Alejandro Gómez has been sold to Metalist Kharkiv in Ukraine.

So, for the 25-year-old to end up in the Ukrainian Premier League is more than surprising, purchased by Metalist Kharkiv on a four year deal. That's despite Gómez confirming in an interview with his new club he had received offers from Inter Milan, Fiorentina and Atlético Madrid after his impressive spell on Sicily with Catania.
Regardless, capturing such an in-demand player is an impressive achievement for Metalist, who are currently in the third qualifying round of the Champions League after finishing second domestically last season. Whether the move was the best option for Gómez though, is rather more doubtful.
