The second round of this year’s Capital One Cup got underway on Tuesday with the majority of the round’s matches being played.
English League Cup recap: Liverpool and Fulham survive second round scares
While several EPL sides cruised into the next round, Liverpool need extra time to see off Notts County and Fulham advanced on penalties against Burton Albion.


Premier League sides Southampton, Norwich City, West Ham and West Brom all advanced comfortably. Liverpool coughed up a 2-0 lead but scored twice in extra time to survive against Notts County from League One. Liverpool finished the match with 10-men after Kolo Toure was stretchered off in extra time with the Reds out of substitutions.
Matty Fryatt's 109th minute goal saved Hull City as they avoided an upset at the hands of Leyton Orient, while Fulham needed penalties to defeat Burton Albion.
Sunderland avoided an embarrassing upset against League One's MK Dons, scoring four times in the final 12 minutes to turn a 0-2 deficit into a 4-2 win. US international Jozy Altidore score to begin the comeback and Connor Wickham's brace moved the Black Cats into the lead.
League One side Bristol City pulled the big upset of the day, knocking off Crystal Palace.
The remainder of the second round matches are scheduled for Wednesday, August 27th.
