The Houston Dynamo needed to beat Arabe Unido at home on Tuesday after managing just a draw at W Connection last week, but things didn’t start so well for them. They conceded inside of seven minutes and all of a sudden, their chances of advancing to the CONCACAF Champions League knockout stages were shrinking, but then Cam Weaver came to the rescue. He scored one goal to get the Dynamo level, then he scored another 15 minutes from time and with that, Houston were into first place in Group 1. Crisis averted.

Houston now sits on four points, one clear of Arabe Unido, while W Connection languishes in last after two matches apiece. Next matchday, Arabe will be tasked with doing what Houston couldn’t -- winning at Trinidad and Tobago -- but the date to circle is really October 24, the final matchday, when the Dynamo visit Panama City in a match that should decide the winner of Group 1.
It didn’t look like that last matchday would matter after Abdiel Arroyo put Arabe in front from the penalty spot after seven minutes. The Dynamo came out flat and while it was a bit of a soft penalty to begin with, Arabe had controlled the early minutes of the contest and were rewarded.
The goal did wake the Dynamo up, though. That’s not to say they dominated the rest of the way, because they still struggled at times, but they at least played with some energy after a dreary start. Bobby Boswell had two chances to score, and while he missed them both, Weaver picked up the slack with a 22nd minute tally.
Houston was playing without several starters, including Brad Davis and Will Bruin, so Weaver had to pick up the slack, and he did. He didn’t just equalize, but he continued to put pressure on Arabe. He caused fits for the visitors’ back line and was involved in several near misses.
While the Dynamo were shaky in defense, at times, they were still creating the bulk of chances and could have gone in front on multiple occasions, but they could’t find the net again. A draw, which would have almost certainly forced them to win in Panama City on the final matchday, seemed likely, but then Weaver came to the rescue with a 75th minute goal. The sparsely filled BBVA Compass Stadium roared and the comeback was complete. The Dynamo had done the job at home, albeit difficultly, and were sitting on top of Group 1.
