Sporting Kansas City has one foot in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals. After beating Real Esteli in Nicaragua to open the tournament, Sporting defeated Olimpia 2-0 in Honduras on Tuesday, giving them a perfect six points from two matches with both of their home matches still left to play and just about booking their spot in the knockout stages.

Soony Saad put Sporting in front after 27 minutes when he got in behind the Metapan defense and with three defenders closing in on him from behind, sliding the ball to the side netting for the opener. On the other side of the break, Saad doubled the Sporting lead from the penalty spot and just like that, KC was on their way not just to a win, but a near-certain spot in the quarterfinals.
Sporting were dominant from the start, causing havoc for the Metapan midfield. Even if KC didn’t exactly impress on the ball, where they were often sloppy, they made things very difficult on the home side and were in control if only for their ability to play the match at their pace and level of physicality. With Saad getting the job up front, that proved to be more than enough for high flying Sporting.
