PFA executive Gordon Taylor says Luis Suarez does not have a release clause, while Brendan Rodgers believes the striker has shown a “lack of respect.”
Rodgers: Suarez showing “lack of respect”

Scott Barbour“There were no promises made - categorically none - and no promises broken,” Rodgers said. “The club and his representatives had several conversations and he knew exactly where he was at. I think Luis knows the support he’s had at the football club and that’s something that’s been unswerving throughout the whole of last season.”
Suarez has tested Liverpool before, first when he was suspended for racial abuse and later when he bit a player -- something he did before at Ajax -- and both times they stood behind him. That’s caused some of the friction at Liverpool, who would like to see the same loyalty from Suarez that they showed him.

Alex Livesey“It does not say the club has to sell,” Taylor told Jamie Jackson. “I can’t say it is cast-iron buy-out clause”
Suarez also said that the club made a promise to him last summer that if Liverpool did not make the Champions League that they would sell him, but even if it is true, that is not legally enforceable.

Scott BarbourThe idea that Liverpool would promise Suarez an exit if they did not qualify for the Champions League is laughable considering nobody, not even many of the fans who piled into Anfield, believed they could really finish in the top four. Such a promise would only make sense if they were content to sell him this summer, which clearly they are not.
Suarez has been the subject of transfer rumors, with Real Madrid and Arsenal interested in buying the striker. The Gunners went as far as lodging a £40,000,001 bid for Suarez, which Liverpool rejected outright.
