Erick Torres scores bicycle kick and keeps Chivas USA “rolling”

Chivas USA has gone from totally unwatchable to less so since the 20-year-old came on loan.

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Spor

Chivas USA is still pretty bad, but Erick Torres is a big reason why it's now worth qualifying "bad" with "pretty." The forward, who's on loan from parent club CD Guadalajara, scored two more goals on Sunday in Chivas USA's 2-2 tie with the Vancouver Whitecaps. (Probably worth noting that Chivas USA blew a 2-0 lead, but that's not our point.) That's four goals in his past two games, in case you're wondering, and six goals in seven MLS appearances. Not bad.

It’s also worth noting that Chivas USA has scored nine goals and secured eight points in the games Torres has played. Those aren’t great numbers, but they are a lot better than the .89 goals per game and .74 points per game they averaged before he got there.

His first goal against the Whitecaps was especially impressive, as it was a perfectly executed bicycle kick from about 14 yards out. (Sidenote: It sure seems like there have been a lot of bicycle-kick goals this year.)

Obviously, the goal was pretty awesome. But let’s talk a little about the celebration. It’s commonly known as “the robot,” as all you fans of 1980s dance crazes know. Well, Torres is apparently a fan, as he broke it out again when he scored his second goal of the game.

Look familiar? He actually did the same celebration when he scored the first of his two goals against the New York Red Bulls a week ago.
