Robin van Persie comes up with one of the all-time great misses

Michael Regan

Manchester United beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 at Old Trafford, but it really should have been a much wider margin of victory. United blew several goalscoring chances en route to victory, and perhaps the most spectacular was Robin van Persie’s end-of-game miss, which featured the Premier League’s most dangerous striker missing an open goal from two yards.

@brocadfael has the goods:

No, this isn’t going to mean much to van Persie, who scored a (rather brilliant) goal early in the second half. The match had already been won, he was already on the scoresheet and he doesn’t seem like the sort of person to take a miss like this to heart.

It is pretty funny though.
