Romelu Lukaku will join Everton on loan, the player confirmed. The 20-year-old Belgium international spent last season on loan with West Brom, where he scored 17 goals despite often coming off the bench in a remarkable season for the then-teenager, but Everton beat the Baggies out to take him on loan this season.

It always seemed likely that Chelsea would send one of their strikers out on loan and originally, it was Demba Ba who looked set to exit Stamford Bridge, but that fell apart and instead Lukaku emerged as the man on the move. It was rumored that Lukaku would leave Chelsea for a season-long loan hours before the end of the transfer deadline and immediately, Everton were linked to him. Not long after, West Brom jumped in to try and bring him back for another season, but the Toffees won out in the end.
It’s a bit of a surprise that Chelsea have sent Lukaku out considering how close he appeared to cracking the rotation, but that was before the Blues signed Samuel Eto’o. With the Cameroonian in the fold, Chelsea apparently thought it better than their prized young striker play regularly, even if it meant he do so for another club, than play a bit role at Stamford Bridge.
Everton have a tremendous young striker in their ranks now, even if only for the year. He proved last season that he can be an impact player and he will have the opportunity to be a starter at Everton, where Roberto Martinez has to be delighted to have secured his services.
