With the No. 1 pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, the Philadelphia Union selected Andre Blake from UConn. No goalkeeper had ever been selected No. 1 overall before today, but Blake is considered by most to be a can't miss prospect.

Philadelphia traded up to get Blake, sending the No. 2 pick and allocation to D.C. United so they could take Blake. They clearly targeted him and now they have their man.
The consensus around MLS is that Blake is the best goalkeeper in the draft since Brad Guzan nine years ago. If he can live up to that hype, the Union may not have their goalkeeper of the future in Blake, but a handful of excellent years and a hefty transfer fee from a European club isn't a bad Plan B.
The selection of Blake may spell the end for Zac MacMath in Philadelphia. After a few rocky seasons and a stalled development, the Union appear to have had enough. With a goalkeeper as good as Blake in the fold, MacMath looks about done at PPL Park.
