Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. Bayern Munich: Final score 0-2, easy for the Bavarians

This match wasn’t nearly as close as the scoreboard indicates.

Borussia Mönchengladbach are a very solid team having an above-average season and are very much in contention to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League. Provided they can hang on to their good players, they will not embarrass themselves in that competition. Their home record of 8-0-1 heading into Friday was exceptional. They got taken apart by Bayern Munich, because Bayern Munich are from a different planet, and had no problem posting a 2-0 away win.

It took six minutes for Bayern to generate a clear-cut scoring chance, which was missed off the post by Mario Götze. This might have mattered to other teams, but to a team that can decide to score whenever they damn well please, it does not matter at all. Götze finished off a cross by Thomas Müller for the game's opening goal just one minute later.

Bayern clinched their victory in the 52nd minute, when Granit Xhaka was caught blocking a shot with his hand in the box, leading to a penalty. Müller converted, doubling Bayern’s lead, and they proceeded to pass in circles for the rest of the game because they can.

This game could have been a lot uglier if not for the play of future Barcelona goalkeeper Marc André ter Stegen, who made 11 saves on the night. Manuel Neuer didn't have to do anything particularly hard at the other end and spent the first 35 minutes of this game picking flowers behind his goal.

The Bundesliga is pointless.
