The good news for Everton fans is that Gareth Barry has escaped without a broken ankle after being stretchered off in the Toffees' draw with Sunderland on the weekend. The bad news is that he has still sustained ligament damage, which will ensure that he will be sidelined for at least few weeks.
Gareth Barry sustains ankle ligament damage
The midfielder faces weeks on the sidelines.

A statement on the club’s official website revealed that the severe swelling of the ankle ensured that it was too early for an accurate recovery time to be declared, but they are hopeful that he will be out for “weeks rather than months.”
The injury will come as a blow for Roberto Martínez, with Barry having been one of the fixtures in his first team since first arriving at Goodison Park on a loan deal from Manchester City last season. His move was made permanent in the summer, and he has started all of the Toffees' 11 Premier League matches so far this season.
His injury could pave the way for Bosnian youngster Muhamed Bešić to break into the first team, having been used only on a rotation basis since arriving in the summer on the back of an impressive World Cup campaign.
