Mesut Özil has been given the Laureus Sport for Good award, an honor given to people in sports who help the community and do good things for those in need. The World Cup champion is certainly a deserving winner, too.
Mesut Özil wins charity award for funding surgery for 23 children
Good guy, Mesut.

After winning the World Cup last July, Özil paid for 23 ill Brazilian children to undergo surgery. Most importantly, all 23 children are now doing well.
"We had the idea to help 23 children, because we had 23 players in the [Germany World Cup] squad," Özil said upon receiving the award.
“And they underwent surgery, which was successful. I am very thankful. The doctors did a great job. I am very happy because it goes well for the children.”
Özil later promised to continue doing his part to help children in need. He already has one award for his work, and maybe more will follow. But the awards are dwarfed by good work he is doing and the impact he is having on people.
Özil is currently out with a knee injury and does not figure to return until 2015, but he’s still doing some wonderful things. Thanks for being great, Mesut.
