Belgium vs. Wales: Final score 0-0, Dragons hold on for impressive draw
Wales continued unbeaten start to Euro 2016 qualifying with goalless draw at Belgium.
It didn't take long for Belgium to assume control of the match, with Marc Wilmots' side looking particularly dangerous through Nacer Chadli down the right flank in the opening exchanges. However, it took the Red Devils until midway through the first half until they finally tested Wales keeper Wayne Hennessey, who managed to block Chadli's effort from point-blank range after a smart flick by Divock Origi.
Belgium went close again through Nicolas Lombaerts just short of the half-hour mark, though Origi prodded a rebound wide after the defender's arcing effort rattled against Hennessey's woodwork. At the other end, Wales went closest to breaking the deadlock on a Gareth Bale free-kick, though his dipping effort was beaten away by Thibaut Courtois. At the break, Belgium had nothing to show for their control, and the game was still goalless.
The second half picked up where the first left off, with Belgium dominating possession but struggling to create anything with it. They were very almost made to pay just over 10 minutes into the second half, though Bale poked wide of Courtois’ far post from a tight angle after surging through on goal. Belgium remained in the ascendancy through to the final whistle, but rarely managed to test Hennessey.
The draw is an excellent result for Wales, who stay unbeaten in Euro 2016 qualification. They currently sit atop Group B. Belgium sinks to fourth place, albeit with a game in hand.
