Wilfried Bony is sticking around Swansea City for a bit longer, or at least raising the price for whoever tries to sign him away from the Swans. The striker has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Premier League club, which will keep him in Wales through 2018.

Bony arrived at Swansea last season after impressive terms at Sparta Prague and Vitesse Arnhem. He scored 27 goals in two seasons for Sparta, then 51 goals in two seasons for Vitesse, making him one of the more sought after strikers of the summer 2013 transfer window. Swansea nabbed him, and it is good for them that they did. He has scored 29 goals in 60 matches since signing with the Swans, establishing himself as one of the league's better strikers.
With Bony proving he can score at a great clip in the Premier League, just like he did at his stops before, he has quickly become a target for several bigger clubs than Swansea. A few teams showed interest in the summer and more figure to make a run at him in upcoming transfer windows. Knowing that Bony would be tempted to move, Swansea added a year to his contract, presumably giving him a raise and ensuring that the Ivory Coast international wouldn’t just be happy with them, but that they would have more leverage if a team did want to buy him.
Bony looks set to stay at Swansea now, or at least bring in a hefty sum of money if he does leave.
