Injury rules Mats Hummels out of Dortmund, Germany action

The BVB skipper will be out at least three weeks due to a sprained foot.

Borussia Dortmund have suffered yet another blow: captain Mats Hummels will miss at least three weeks with injury. Hummels was substituted at halftime during Saturday's eventual 2-1 loss to Bayern Munich. A scan confirmed the defender has sprained his right foot.

Dortmund are already hurting. Rather than challenging for the Bundesliga title, the team are currently fighting to get out of the relegation zone, having suffered five straight defeats in the league. Their Champions League form, however, is an entirely different story. BVB have yet to concede a goal and currently sit top of Group D, three points clear of nearest challenger Arsenal.

Hummels will miss the next Champions League match, however, the reverse leg against Galatasaray. He’ll also miss next week’s match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, currently second in the Bundesliga. Finally, the Germany international will miss out on his team’s next Euro 2016 qualifier, but since it’s against Gibraltar, the World Champions may not be too worried.
