The Europa League returns for its fourth matchday on Thursday, as the group stage hurtles toward its conclusion. Thanks to an automatic spot in next season’s Champions League being on the line in this year’s edition of the competition, it suddenly matters just a little bit more.

The Europa League returns for its fourth matchday on Thursday.


Some of the biggest matches include Tottenham Hotspur's clash away at Asteras Tripolis, Saint-Étienne's game at home to Italian giants Inter Milan, Everton's intriguing matchup with Lille and PAOK's trip to Florence to play Vincenzo Montella's out-of-form Fiorentina.
Tottenham are in a three-way battle for supremacy in Group C and need a win on the road. Spurs and Besiktas are tied with five points, while Asteras is just a point behind. Everton played Lille to a scoreless draw in their last match, and might need a win in this game to stay on top of Group H.
While some groups look already done and dusted, there are still some where everything is still up for grabs. One of the tightest is that of reigning champions Sevilla, who sit atop of Group G, but just a couple of points clear of bottom side Feyenoord. In Groups I and J, there are three teams sitting on six points. Maybe, just maybe, the Europa League isn't so boring after all ...
