One goalkeeper had such a bad match that he picked up and went home. Literally.
Goalkeeper literally leaves country after terrible match

Montrose FC, a club in Scotland, lost 5-1 to rivals Arbroath in part because of Lucas Birnstingl. The goalkeeper had a horrible match, allowing the opposing goalkeeper to score when he watched the ball bounce over his head into the goal. That turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-1 deficit for his side, and six minutes later it got worse. He conceded a penalty and was sent off, capping as bad of a bad match as a goalkeeper could have.
The Canadian Birnstingl responded to his terrible match by packing his bags and heading home. He got on a flight, left Scotland and went back to Canada.
Birnstingl later called manager George Shields and apologized, even offering to return to the club, but it won’t be happening. Montrose had already canceled his registration and didn’t want to bring him back.
There is no word on whether Birnstingl told Montrose he was leaving when he hopped on his flight to Canada. Hopefully he just sent Shields a peace emoji.
