Marco Reus is one of the top attacking players in Europe, but the only way Borussia Dortmund could get them to sign his last contract is to insert a €25m release clause into it that kicks in this January. He'll be subject to transfer speculation all winter, and the clubs he's most often linked to are Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Former Bayern coach tells Marco Reus to go to Real Madrid, not Munich
He’s forgotten who Real Madrid have in the process.
Everyone’s got an opinion about where Reus should go, and you can count former Bayern and Madrid manager Jupp Heynckes among them. He thinks that Reus should head to Madrid instead of Bayern. What’s his reason?:
“I would recommend going to Madrid. Bayern have four or five world-class players up front. Where would Reus play?”
The same place that he would play for Madrid, presumably. In Reus' preferred position, Madrid currently have Cristiano Ronaldo. You know, the guy who won the last Ballon d'Or and is favored to win the next one. They also currently have Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, Isco and Karim Benzema on the books.
With no disrespect to Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, Mario Götze, Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski, Los Merengues probably have the more formidable murderer's row of front line talent. It's understandable that Heynckes, who had much more success with Bayern than Madrid, and much more recently, would talk about how good the Bavarians' attack is already. But they don't have the same stars as Madrid, and their starting wingers -- Ribery and Robben -- are both on the wrong side of 30.
Reus is a much more sensible signing for Bayern than Madrid, and would have a considerably better chance of breaking into the first team there than he would at the Bernabeu. It’s not even close. Heynckes couldn’t be more wrong.
