adidas teases Primeknit boot tech

The sportswear giant looks set to launch a boot that could well change the way that soccer footwear feels, reacts, and runs.

adidas football

Since the dawn of the modern age of football boot design, every manufacturer has strived for one common goal with their products: the perfect fit. This has seen footwear come in a number of different shapes, made out of a number of different materials, and utilized a number of different techniques.

adidas have arguably been leading the push over the last few years with the f50 adizero boot and especially in its latest iteration of the sprintskin upper technology. The sprintskin is designed with weight in mind and, as a result, is ultra thin. In recent years, it had been very stiff compared to its leather counterparts but adidas seem to have solved the issue with the Samba f50 that launched last fall. That may all be about to change as adidas have now taken it upon themselves to tease a brand new piece of boot tech, one that could change the way the sport’s footwear is constructed for years to come.

Without saying it in as many words, it seems that the sportwear giant is all set to launch the latest generation of its football footwear with a boot based on its Primeknit technology. It’s a manufacturing technique that adidas have been using for the last couple of years in their running shoes and is reminiscent of Nike’s own Flyknit footwear.

Utilizing Primeknit in soccer is a very exciting proposition for a number of reasons including fit, feel, and speed. Primeknit allows for a flexible upper, allowing it to conform to the player’s foot better than anything else has in recent years. The upper could also do an excellent job of transmitting the feel of the ball, thus improving sensation during and after the first touch. Finally, we could see adidas produce a boot that is significantly lighter than the f50 adizero, especially when this upper is combined with the sprintframe outsole.

adidas are set to unveil the new boot tomorrow.
