Celtic shutout streak ends on 25-yard missile

Put up your shields.

Stu Forster

If your shutout streak is ended by a missile, does is really count as over? After all, shutout streaks are implicitly a representative of a stretch of time in which a goalkeeper kept a human from kicking a football into his net, not a stretch of time when he wasn’t left helpless by a missile fired from 25 yards away.

And yet, that’s how Fraser Forster’s Celtic record 1,256 minute shutout streak came to an end. Jonny Hayes fired a rocket at his goal and that was that for history.

Aberdeen would go on to win, 2-1, handing Celtic their first loss in the league. And 11th minute red card didn’t help Celtic, but you couldn’t stop Hayes’ shot with 11 men. Or 12 men. Or a missile defense shield.
