Alan Pardew handed 7-game ban for headbutt

Newcastle United will be without their manager for most of the remainder of the season.

Tony Marshall

The FA have announced that Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew will be suspended for seven games for an incident involving Hull City midfielder David Meyler. Pardew will be banned from the stadium during the first three games of his suspension, while the final four games are a touchline ban. Pardew has also been fined £60,000 and will be allowed to appeal.

Pardew and Meyler’s altercation occurred on March 1, when Pardew appeared to make head-to-head contact with the Hull player. Meyler has not been charged of any wrongdoing by the FA.

There are currently 10 games remaining in Newcastle's season and they sit in 8th place, on the fringes of a Europa League spot. The Magpies have 10 games remaining in their season and Pardew will return for games away to Arsenal, at home against Cardiff and away to Liverpool. His ban will start on Saturday when Fulham take on Newcastle at Craven Cottage, provided he does not appeal.
