Mesut Özil to miss North London derby with ‘quite serious’ hamstring injury

Arsène Wenger has announced Mesut Özil will miss the North London derby due to a hamstring injury.

Arsenal will be without playmaker Mesut Özil for a 'few weeks' according to manager Arsène Wenger, who described the hamstring injury he sustained in the Gunners' Champions League draw with Bayern Munich on Tuesday as 'quite serious':

It means that the German will certainly miss the North London derby next weekend, and, by the sounds of things, and handful of other matches too. With the season now in its crucial phase -- and Arsenal also having matches against Chelsea and Manchester City coming up later in the month -- it's undoubtedly a massive blow.

Özil is the latest to join an injury list which already contains a significant wedge of the Gunners' first team, with central midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere both among those sidelined. It's likely that Tomáš Rosický will put his new contract to good use with a few extra starts over the coming weeks, though that's quite a drop in attacking quality for the Premier League's second-placed team.
