Europa League scores: Tottenham stink, Lyon don’t

Wave goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur, who are all but out. Sevilla were also wildly disappointing, while Lyon impressed after a slow start.

Clive Rose

Ludogorets 0-3 Valencia

So that score looks typical, right? About what you'd expect? Sure, except Valencia had Seydou Keita sent off for denial of a goal-scoring opportunity in the 26th minute. Roman Bezjak missed the resulting penalty and Sevilla scored two more times with 10 men. Good try, Ludogorets.

FC Porto 1-0 Napoli

Also an expected score, except Porto dodged a million bullets. Napoli could have scored a half-dozen times, but Helton was fantastic. Jackson Martinez scored Porto’s goal, heading in at the end of a counter.

FC Basel 0-0 Salzburg

Womp wooooomp.

AZ Alkmaar 1-0 Anzhi Makhachkaka

Since Anzhi are a crappy relegation-fodder Russian side and it’s a miracle they got here in the first place, they probably won’t overturn this result. The goal came from American international Aron Johannsson from the penalty spot.

Olympique Lyonnais 4-1 Viktoria Plzen

The incredible thing about this score is that Plzen scored first, and early, off a 3rd minute header by Tomas Honava. But Gueda Fofana leveled for Lyon in the 12th minute, sending the teams into the half level, and the hosts dominated after that. Lyon were a different side in the second half and will like their chances to advance heading to the Czech Republic.

Sevilla 0-2 Real Betis

Betis are one of the worst sides in any major European league, so good job, Sevilla! A home derby loss to Betis is always embarrassing, even if it’s not in the league and you’re resting starters.

Tottenham Hotspur 1-3 Benfica

Christian Eriksen scored a brilliant free kick, but Spurs were otherwise awful. They have precisely zero momentum heading into Sunday's game against Arsenal.

Juventus 1-1 Fiorentina

Arturo Vidal struck early, but the Viola have the advantage heading into the second leg thanks to MARIO GOMEEEEEEEEEZ. CHA CHA!
