adidas have announced a pleasant little surprise this morning, catching just about everyone off guard. The sportswear giant has revealed a new variation on its wonderful adizero f50 boot for star player Gareth Bale. The new boot is called the Crazylight F50 and it is the lightest football boot ever made and by some distance.

You sure as hell won't miss the Crazylight F50 on the pitch, coming in a mainly Solar Slime upper with black arrows running up and down its length with Solar Zest accents for the outsole, adidas stripes, and logo. The boot weighs a phenomenally light 135 grams, 30 less than its predecessor and 30 less than the Samba Primeknit which made its debut yesterday on the feet of Luis Suarez. The weight reduction comes as a result of a new upper developed by the adidas Innovation Team while the outsole has a rearranged stud pattern that has allowed the manufacturer to shave a few unnecessary grams off.
The Crazylight F50 is another limited edition release from adidas and will be worn by Gareth Bale exclusively (until some other enterprising footballers decide they want a taste of the speed for themselves). Much like the rest of the F50 series, the point of Crazylight is speed and adidas have made that perfectly clear on the sock liner, inscribing “light makes fast” for the player to easily see.
They will make their debut on Tuesday when Real Madrid take on Schalke at the Bernabeu for the second leg of their Champions League tie. Madrid carry a 6-1 advantage heading into that match. Bale sounded pretty excited about the new boot, speaking in adidas’ official release:
“I’ve tried them out already in training and they feel great. I can’t wait to wear them on field. Lightweight boots definitely give me an advantage over the competition and I feel faster and more agile the lighter the boots become. Hopefully I can score a few goals in them over the next few weeks.”
