Sunderland are off to a dream start at Wembley Stadium. Thanks to Fabio Borini, they lead Manchester City in the League Cup final, and the Citizens are probably feeling a bit of Wembley deja vu. Remember last time they were in this spot, in a final against a relegation battler?
Fabio Borini working on being a Sunderland legend
The goal came off a giveaway by Fernandinho on the edge of the Sunderland penalty area, but there was still tons of work for the Black Cats to do after the turnover. Their quick counter and Borini’s eventual finish was brilliant.
City have the firepower to come from behind, but this certainly won't be how Manuel Pellegrini envisioned starting the match. However, his decisions to pick Costel Pantilimon and Martin Demichelis will certainly be questioned after this goal. They didn't make terrible errors, but it's not ridiculous to suggest that players of a higher class -- which City have available to them -- would have done better.
