Robin van Persie injury: Manchester United forward out at least a month

Manchester United have announced that Robin van Persie has a sprained knee.

Manchester United have announced that striker Robin van Persie will miss four to six weeks with a sprained knee. He was stretchered off during Wednesday's Champions League Round of 16, second leg match against Olympiacos, which Manchester United won to advance in the competition.

Van Persie’s career has been troubled by injuries, but he was able to stay healthy during the last two seasons, when he was one of the best strikers in the Premier League. However, this will be his second long-term injury layoff of this season. He missed six weeks of action this winter with toe and groin injuries.

United’s star striker has made just 18 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring 11 goals. They’re lucky that he’s been more available for Champions League, where he’s scored four goals in four starts and two substitute appearances.

The Red Devils were already serious underdogs in their Champions League quarterfinal against Bayern Munich, but few will like their chances of pulling an upset with van Persie out for both legs of that tie. He will also miss next week's derby game against Manchester City. But, luckily for the Dutch national team, he should be healthy in time for World Cup preparation.
