Nike is taking advantage of one of the biggest matches in the club football calendar with a brand new boot colorway for star man Cristiano Ronaldo. Much like the yellow Fast Forward 2006 Mercurial Vapors that the sportswear giant dropped just last week, these are inspired by another one of Nike's instantly recognizable World Cup colorways.

Cristiano Ronaldo has new Vapors for El Clásico.

The newest special edition Vapor recalls the 2010 Mercurial Superfly II that sported a Metallic Mach Purple upper with very bright Total Orange on the heel. The boots were designed to provide contrast on the player’s foot, instantly drawing attention from teammates’ eyes, ultimately aiding ball movement around the field. Nike has clearly drawn inspiration from that original design while updating it with styling to match the rest of its current lineup.
The Superfly II featured a carbon-fiber outsole to help shed weight. Nike has since ditched that technology in favor of a glass-fiber composite outsole that not only reduces weight but offers stability and support with flexibility for the player’s foot. The Fast Forward Vapor will come with the textured upper and All Conditions Control coating that has become a standard offering for Nike’s stable of options.
Cristiano Ronaldo will debut the Fast Forward 2010 Mercurial Vapor IX on March 23 in front of the fans at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu when his Real Madrid side take on FC Barcelona. Madrid currently sit on top of the league table with a four-point lead on their rivals. A win would open up some major breathing room for Los Merengues.
