Real Madrid conceded an early goal to Barcelona despite starting El Clásico as the stronger side, but they didn't take too long to hit back. They now lead 2-1, thanks to a brace by Karim Benzema.
Karim Benzema answers twice for Real Madrid
It only took them 13 minutes to respond to Andres Iniesta’s opener, with Benzema heading in a cross from Angel Di Maria to level the score at 1-1.
Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes looked to have this header read well and his hands right in front of the ball, but somehow, he let the ball slip through his fingers. The goal was a deserved one for Benzema, who has worked very hard, and a deserved assist for Di Maria, who has arguably been the man of the match thus far.
Unfortunately, Di Maria went down with an injury after Madrid celebrated the goal and he had to be taken off the pitch by Madrid’s trainers, but his problem was apparently very minor. He stepped back onto the pitch quickly and provided another assist for Benzema.
Both teams are a bit too confident in their own attacking abilities to commit to defense, and it’s showing. And it doesn’t look like tightening up at all -- Benzema had a shot cleared off the line just a minute after his second goal.
