A total of 13 police officers, some serving and some retired, are being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission in regards to their potential involvement in the Hillsborough tragedy of 1989. At least one of those 13 is being investigated for manslaughter.

As a new Hillsborough inquest gets underway, IPCC is investigating 13 police officers to determine their level of involvement in the 1989 tragedy.

— Owen Gibson (@owen_g) March 27, 2014 In 2012, the original Hillsborough inquest verdicts, in which all 96 deaths were ruled accidental, were overturned. A new inquest into the causes of the disaster is set to begin on March 31.
The original coroner’s report stated that all of the dead were fatally injured by 3:15 p.m. local time, before police and medical personnel were able to assist fans, but new evidence presented to the court suggests that as many as 58 of the 96 who died had not yet been fatally injured by 3:15.
