Oleh Husev saves opponent’s life after knee to the head

Some quick thinking by Jaba Kankava might have saved an opposition player’s life.

Sunday’s Ukrainian Premier League match between Dynamo Kiev and Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk took a turn for the worst when Ukrainian international Oleh Husev took a nasty knee to the head from the opposing goalkeeper. He appeared to be knocked unconscious. Fearing that the Dynamo Kiev player had stopped breathing, Dnipro’s Jaba Kankava quickly rushed to his aid. The video is pretty incredible.

Kankava has no hesitation about reaching into Husev’s mouth to apparently stop his tongue from blocking his airway. And, judging by Husev’s reaction, it looks like that’s exactly what happened. Right after Kankava moves Husev’s tongue, Husev jolts awake, though he obviously still required medical attention.

There’s no other news about Husev’s injury at the moment, though it would be stunning if he didn’t sustain a concussion. But it obviously could have been much worse than that, and Husev was awake when he left the pitch thanks to his opponent’s quick thinking.
