FA Cup scores: Wigan are magic

Manchester City will never beat Wigan Athletic ever again.

Jan Kruger

Manchester City had a chance to get revenge on Wigan Athletic and inch closer to a trophy when they hosted the Latics on Sunday. They got nothing and ... well, they probably don't like it. Oh, there were other games, too.

Sheffield United 2-0 Charlton Athletic

That both of these teams advanced to this stage in the competition and then drew each other is amazing. Sheffield United's goals came close together, with Ryan Flynn scoring in the 65th minute and John Brayford hitting the back of the net two minutes later. This is the first time since 2001 that a League One team has made the FA Cup semifinal, and this is also Sheffield United's ninth win in all competitions.

Hull City 3-0 Sunderland

Hull's first goal came on a brilliant header by Curtis Davies in the 68th minute, but two later goals that sealed the result for the Tigers were both very preventable and due to the mistakes of one man. Lee Cattermole got absolutely torched on David Meyler's 72nd minute goal, then assisted Matty Fryatt's five minutes later with a terrible back pass. This game also featured a missed penalty by Hull's Sone Aluko in the first half, so it could have been worse for Gus Poyet's boys.

Manchester City 1-2 Wigan Athletic

The marquee attraction of the day didn't disappoint in the slightest. Wigan went up in the 27th minute with a penalty converted by Jordi Gómez after -- you guessed it! -- Martin Demichelis took down Marc-Antoine Fortuné. Wigan stunned the Etihad just after the halftime break when James Perch beat Jesús Navas to the back post to finish off a square ball by James McArthur.

City fought back and cut Wigan's lead in half on a laser by Samir Nasri -- though it should have been called back for offside due to Joleon Lescott's interference -- and dominated the rest of the game. But their shooting wasn't great, and Wigan held on despite City's utter domination throughout the final half-hour.
