John Eales has been a lifelong Sheffield Wednesday supporter, traveling England to see his beloved Owls play. He end kept his season tickets when he moved to Coventry, trekking to Wednesday for matches.
Sheffield Wednesday fans sing for ailing fan
There’s only one Johnny Eales.

But health problems have left Eales restricted to a wheelchair and facing his mortality. When he went to Wednesday’s match on Monday, he and his family knew that it could be his last so his son Chris took to social media, asking fans to cheer on his father.
”He has lost all hope of recovery. From talking to the doctors just last week, we do not expect my dad to be here for next season.
”Just getting dressed on Monday to come to the game he will feel like he has run a marathon, but he will be at his favourite place in the world on Monday afternoon.
“Hearing his name sung by the Wednesday faithful I know will give him the inspiration to fight on, and I hope it will restore the pride he has recently lost in himself.”
The plea went well beyond the fans. The club read it and flashed a message on the scoreboard in the 12th minute, encouraging fans to sing for John.
And when the 12th minute came, the fans exploded. Cheers, clapping and a song of “there’s only one Johnny Eales” filled the ground.
The team came through too, delivering a 2-1 win.
One Johnny Eales, indeed.
