Premier League scores: Fulham blow a two-goal lead, West Brom get an important victory

It was another day of roller coaster-like emotions in the Premier League, especially near the bottom of the table. Fulham blew a 2-0 lead against Hull City and ended up with a draw, West Brom picked up three huge points by defeating West Ham, and Swansea City got a big win as well. Everton's Champions League dreams were likely extinguished by Southampton, while Spurs closed within three points of fifth.

Thanks to a pair of headed own-goals, Everton's dreams of a top-four finish vanished into the English afternoon as they fell 2-0 at Southampton. Antolín Alcaraz gave the Saints the lead in the opening minute with the first misdirected header, and Seamus Coleman followed up 30 minutes later with one of his own. Everton had two appeals for penalty shots in the second half denied; in both cases it seemed on replay that Dejan Lovren had fouled a player in the box, but the referee was convinced in neither case.

The Cottagers couldn't quite continue their late-season renaissance, but they did rebound from a loss against Spurs lost week to claim a point with a 2-2 draw with Hull. After a scoreless first half, Fulham erupted for two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Ashkan Dejagah scored a lovely goal through traffic in the 54th minute, and four minutes later, Fernando Amorebieta put a well-placed header past Steve Harper to double the lead.

Nikica Jelvavic pulled Hull back within a goal with 15 minutes to play, but after the woodwork denied both Sone Aluko and Ahmed Elmohamady, it looked like Fulham would hold on, but it wasn't to be. Shane Long got free at the far post in the 87th minute, sending a header past David Stockdale, and ripping two potentially crucial points away from Fulham.

Stoke City 0-1 Tottenham

Danny Rose's first half header combined with a red card to Ryan Shawcross early in the second half allowed Spurs to move within three points of fifth-placed Everton. Stoke City fans were a bit grumpy with the referee decision to send off Shawcross, but his tackle on Rose was late and high, more than enough to warrant a second yellow card.

Swansea City 4-1 Aston Villa

The Swans appear safe for another season after a 2-1 win over Aston Villa. Wilfred Bony put the Swans up early, and after Gabriel Agbonlahor equalized in the 21st minute, Jonjo Shelvey pulled Swansea back ahead in spectacular fashion. Ron Vlaar's outlet pass from the edge of the Villa box went right to Shelvey who took one touch, and volleyed the ball over Brad Guzan from 45-yards out.

Saido Berahino's 10th minute goal was enough to earn West Brom a massive victory in their efforts to avoid relegation. The Baggies move to 36 points, and while they likely still have work to do, it might just be enough for them to stay up. West Ham again looked poor, suffering their fourth straight loss, as some Irons fans voiced their displeasure with head coach Sam Allardyce by raising a banner calling for "Fat Sam" to be fired.
