Chris Hughton sacked by Norwich City

Norwich City have decided that a managerial change is necessary to save their season.

Norwich City have sacked manager Chris Hughton with immediate effect, replacing him with Under-18 coach Neil Adams. Colin Calderwood and Paul Trollope, two of Hughton's assistants, have also parted ways with the club.

While Norwich are currently above the relegation zone, they will find themselves in the bottom three if Sunderland can take seven points from their three games in hand. Hughton's fate was sealed on Saturday when his side lost 1-0 at home to relegation rivals West Bromwich Albion. The Canaries have scored just 26 goals in 33 games, good for second-worst in the league.

In a statement, Norwich thanked Hughton for his time with the team and noted his achievements, but weren’t shy about stating why he needed to be fired.

The Norwich City Board has taken the decision to give the Club the maximum chance to secure the points required between now and the end of the season to ensure retention of our Barclays Premier League status ... The recent run of four defeats in our last six Premier League games and six consecutive away league defeats left the Club with no choice but to act, with five games still to play in the current campaign.

Adams played for the club from 1994 to 1999 and has been voted into the club’s Hall of Fame. He won the FA Youth Cup with Norwich, but does not have any senior coaching experience.
