Inter Milan vs Lazio: Preview and TV schedule

Inter Milan and Lazio go head to head for a place in next season’s Europa League on Saturday evening.

Dino Panato

The Nerazzurri currently occupy one of the two slots that guarantee European football for next season. However, five other sides are still vying for the two coveted places, as just four points separate six teams coming into the final two games of the season.

Defeat in last weekend's Milan derby meant Inter failed to consolidate fifth place, but Lazio failed to capitalise, relying on a stoppage time penalty to rescue a 3-3 draw with Hellas Verona on Monday evening. The Eagles are four points behind their hosts and need six points from their final two matches to have any chance of salvaging their season.

The San Siro will be the setting for three of Inter's Argentine contingent to say goodbye. Javier Zanetti will call time on a 22 year career, with the 40-year-old having spent 19 of those seasons in an Inter shirt, while Walter Samuel and Diego Milito also make their final home appearances before departing for pastures new.

Club president Erick Thohir has given coach Walter Mazzarri a vote of confidence ahead of the game and the expected mainstream changes to be made to squad personnel during the summer.

Lazio ended a run of over 14 years without an away win against Inter, thanks to last season’s 3-1 victory. It’s also worth pointing out that Edy Reja’s first match back in charge of the Biancocelesti ended in a 1-0 victory over Inter in Rome at the start of the year.

Hernanes will face the side he departed in the January transfer window, while Miroslav Klose is back to full fitness and should lead the Lazio line.
