Pepe Mel is out as the head coach of West Bromwich Albion after less than four months on the job. The decision was announced by the club on Monday, as the two sides agreed to part ways after talks between the coach and the club's board of directors.
Pepe Mel out as West Bromwich Albion head coach
Pepe Mel becomes the first Premier League manager to be out of a job after the club announced they’d agreed to part ways with the Spanish coach.

“We would like to thank Pepe for his efforts over the past four months in helping to keep the Club in the Premier League and wish him well for the future.”
“Both Pepe and the Club set out with the best intentions of making the appointment work. However, having reflected on events both on and off the field during our talks today, it became apparent that it was in the best interests of both parties for there to be an amicable parting.”
Mel joined West Brom in January, coaching the Baggies in 17 league matches while compiling a record of three wins, six draws and eight losses. While it wasn’t the most successful run, it was enough for West Brom to secure a place in the Premier League for next season, their fifth consecutive year in the top flight.
According to the release, assistant Head Coach Keith Downing and goalkeeper Coach Dean Kiely will remain with the team in the same roles. The team also said the search for Mel’s replacement is underway, and one expects they’ll be hoping to have someone in place before the transfer window opens later in the summer.
