Genoa congratulates Gilardino on making Italy squad, even though he didn’t

Oopsies.

Genoa were ecstatic that Alberto GIlardino made Italy's World Cup team and were quick to congratulate he and teammate Mattia Perin on joining the Azzurri.

The problem?

Gilardino didn’t actually make the team. Cesare Prandelli left him and his 13 goals this season off of the squad.

Now Genoa’s only representative is Perin, who at best will have a wonderful view of Gigi Buffon in the Italy net. As for Gilardino, he can stare at Genoa’s tweet all summer and wonder just how close he was, then light his Genoa kit on fire while crying into an Italy kit.
