Ligue 1 runners-up AS Monaco have confirmed the departure of their coach, Claudio Ranieri. The 62-year-old Italian had been in charge of the club since May 2012, leading it to promotion from Ligue 2 and a subsequent second-place finish in its first season back in the top flight.

Monaco have confirmed the departure of their coach, Claudio Ranieri.

As expected, Monaco's Vadim Vasilyev has confirmed the departure of Claudio Ranieri as coach. #ASM

— FFW (@FrenchFtWeekly) May 20, 2014 Certainly, Ranieri did an excellent job at Monaco, finishing just nine points behind league winners Paris Saint-Germain this season. That’s despite having had a great wave of new players to integrate into the team after a big summer spending spree. However, it seems as if Monaco wanted a younger coach to lead them forward. Reports suggest that former Sporting Lisbon boss Leonardo Jardim will take over after Ranieri.
This isn’t the first time Ranieri has lost a job after being not quite good enough to win a title. He has now finished second place in Serie A, La Liga, the Premier League and Ligue 1. Quick, Schalke or Dortmund, give him a call. He needs to complete the super-cycle.
