Norwich City appoint Neil Adams full time

The Canaries have stayed in house and given their interim boss a permanent gig.

Rather than go to someone tried and true to get them back into the Premier League, Norwich City has opted to stick with one of their own. The club confirmed on Thursday that they have appointed Neil Adams as their full-time manager on a three-year contract.

Adams is one of Norwich's best ever players and has been the club's Under-18s coach since the summer of 2011. He won the FA Youth Cup with the club and was appointed interim manager after Chris Hughton was sacked late in their most recent campaign. He was unable to save them from relegation, but the Norwich board saw enough from Adams to believe he should keep the job.

Don’t think Norwich is going with a cheap option just because they’ve been relegated. “The Club is in a strong position off the pitch, with no external debt and capacity crowds expected at Carrow Road yet again next season,” said Norwich CEO David McNally. “We have the nucleus of an excellent squad, and Neil will be given funds to refresh and strengthen the squad where required.”

By spending so little up until the ill-advised purchase of Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Norwich were able to bank plenty of money and should have one of the strongest squads in the Championship next season, and on a reasonable wage bill, too. They’ll be favorites for promotion, so Adams is getting more than a chance at management. He’s getting a chance to pilot a club in good shape to Premier League success and prosperity.
