Liverpool rewarded head coach Brendan Rodgers with a long-term contract extension, in the wake of the team's second place finish in the Premier League this season. The club announced the new contract with a press release on their website on Monday.

The Reds manager is now under contract until 2018 after leading the club within two points of a league title.

Rodgers led Liverpool within two points of their first ever Premier League title, and their first top flight title since 1990, but a couple late season stumbles denied Reds supporters the trophy they so desperately want. None the less, Rodgers has done an excellent job with the club since coming over from Swansea in 2012.
Principal owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner released a joint statement, expressing their belief and trust in Rodgers.
”Brendan is at the heart of what we, as an ownership group, are trying to achieve on the pitch. This season has reaffirmed everyone’s belief that we can bring football success to Liverpool and we are all committed to working together to achieve that.
“Players and supporters have made it clear how important Brendan is to our success and so to have him commit to us for the long term is a great boost for everyone going forward.”
The 41-year-old Northern Irish boss has one year left, plus an option, on his previous contract, but is now set to to be in charge of the Reds until 2018.
No financial details were announced.
