Mexico vs. Israel: Lineups

Mexico’s first warm-up friendly is a combination tribute and experiment. Who knows what Miguel Herrera is going for.

Christian Petersen

Mexico look to be lining up with their usual back three for their friendly against Israel, though it’s not clear exactly how their formation will operate and who the true 11th starter is. Cuauhtemoc Blanco is getting a tribute start, but he’ll almost certainly be removed early in the game. Miguel Herrera probably wants to treat this like a serious warmup friendly, at least for part of the match.

The biggest surprise is that Carlos Salcido appears to be the defensive midfielder, though this might not be a match for Mexico's first choice team. None of Carlos Peña, Luis Montes or Rafa Marquez is starting, though it's conceivable that Herrera is re-working his team completely. Blanco's replacement should tell us a lot.

Kickoff is at 9:30 p.m. ET at Estadio Azteca. You can catch the game on ESPN2 or UniMas in the United States.
