Costa Rica's World Cup hopes appear to have already suffered a significant blow. On Thursday word started to spread that the country's leading scorer, Alvaro Saborio, had suffered a foot injury that could force him out of the tournament. The early indications are that Saborio broke his foot, but that has not been determined for certain.
Alvaro Saborio injures foot, may have fracture and miss World Cup
Costa Rica appears to have lost their leading scorer heading into a very tough group.

— Chris Kamrani (@chriskamrani) May 29, 2014 If it is a broken 5th metatarsal, Saborio would definitely miss the World Cup and could potentially miss several months of the MLS season after returning to Real Salt Lake.
Even without their leading scorer, Costa Rica had its work cut out in Group D where Uruguay, England and Italy were already looking at Los Ticos as the weak link. Without Saborio's 32 international goals, the scoring burden will fall almost entirely upon the likes of Bryan Ruiz (of Holland's PSV), Celso Borges (of Sweden's AIK) and Joel Campbell (of Greece's Olympiacos). That trio of players has combined for just 35 goals in 153 international appearances.
