Luis Montes substituted for Mexico after awful leg injury
Mexico midfielder Luis Montes will miss the World Cup after suffering a terrible injury in a warm-up friendly.

Montes sustained the injury after a nasty challenge with Ecuador's Segundo Castillo and broke his right leg. It took an extended period of time for trainers to cut his socks off, stabilize his leg and load him onto a stretcher so that the game could continue. He was unsurprisingly taken directly down the tunnel, with Marco Fabian replacing him.
His teammates reacted emotionally, with a number of them looking visibly upset as he was being treated. The pace of the game was considerably slower after he departed, with both teams coasting towards halftime.
Montes has been a key player for Mexico since Miguel Herrera took over and has been one of the best players in Liga MX over the last two years, helping Leon to two league championships. His chemistry with fellow midfielder Carlos Peña was expected to be a crucial component of Mexico’s team, but they will have to figure out how to get results in the World Cup without him.
Update: Montes has suffered a double leg break.
Mexico press staff confirms Luis Montes has sustained suspected fractures to right fibula and tibia.
