If it seems like it has been awhile since Marco Pappa last scored a goal, that's because it has. Pappa's last goal came nearly two years ago, before he transferred from the Chicago Fire to Holland's Heerenveen and then back to MLS. At least Pappa made his first Seattle Sounders goal memorable.
Marco Pappa curls in beautiful free kick from 25 yards out
The Seattle Sounders midfielder scores his first goal in nearly two years.
Lining up his shot from about 25 yards out, Pappa easily cleared Real Salt Lake's six-man wall and beautifully curled the free kick inside the near post to easily beat Jeff Attinella.
His celebration showed some rust, though. Maybe he was lost in the moment, having practically forgotten was scoring felt like, but that slide was not a great idea. The Sounders, as we well know, play on artificial turf and even though the field had just been watered at halftime, the lack of slide suggests he probably suffered a pretty sweet strawberry.
If he keeps bending in shots like that, though, he can be excused.
