Wigan Athletic vs. Queens Park Rangers: Final score 0-0, that was horrible

Sweet lord that was abysmal.

Alex Livesey

Friday's Championship playoff semifinal match between Wigan Athletic and Queens Park Rangers stood in stark contrast to Thursday's playoff match in terms of excitement. Both sides looked much more interested in keeping a clean sheet and prolonging the series than actually winning the match as the produced very few chances in a 0-0 draw.

Wigan had more of the ball and more shots, but didn’t do much with either. The first opportunity they had resembling a chance came in the 42nd minute, when Robert Green stopped a shot by Jordi Gomez from 12 yards out. Their best chance came in the 62nd minute when the ball fell to Marc-Antoine Fortune in the box after ping-ponging around, but he hit a half-volley well over the crossbar.

And that was about it for either team. Scott Carson only had to make one save the entire match as QPR conceded possession over and over again. It was a poor game, and since away goals don't matter, Rangers will like their chances to advance.

Wigan: Carson, Kiernan, Caldwell, Boyce, Beausejour, MacArthur, Gomez, Perch, Maloney, McManaman (Waghorn 76’), Fortune (Maynard 76’)

Goals: None

Queens Park Rangers: Green, Onouha, Dunne, Hill, Simpson, Traore (Doyle 70’), Barton, O’Neil, Hoilett (Yun 88’), Morrison (Kranjcar 78’), Austin

Goals: None
