Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Portugal training early on Thursday

The Portuguese striker left training early with an ice pack on his left knee.

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo was forced to leave training early on Thursday with an ice pack on his left knee, according to a report from the Associated Press. This will no doubt fuel concern about Ronaldo's health, and the status of his left knee that was diagnosed with tendinosis last week.

Ronaldo started training with his teammates, spending roughly 20 minute doing warm-ups and exercises, but did not join the rest of the team during ball drills. The striker instead did some stretching, signed a few autographs, and then sat on the bench with his left knee iced.

He’s been struggling with lingering thigh problems from his club season with Real Madrid, but the tendinosis is a new issue that’s basically the cumulative effect of multiple small tears in the connective tissue around the tendon not healing properly.

At this point, he's still expected to play when Portugal opens group stage play against Germany on Monday, June 16th at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador.
