Mexico's tumultuous qualifying campaign has left many doubting whether or not El Tri are capable of continuing their streak of advancing out of the group stages. It's a run that extends all the way back to the 1994 World Cup, and could end this season if Mexico can't get all three points against Cameroon.
Mexico vs. Cameroon, World Cup 2014: Time, TV schedule, preview and more
El Tri and the Indomitable Lions begin their campaigns in Natal on Friday. Here’s how to watch on TV and online.
Head coach Miguel Herrera's lineup for the Cameroon match was reportedly leaked early in the week, and the news that Guillermo Ochoa, Jose Juan Vazquez, Hector Herrera and Andres Guardado will start isn't inspiring confidence. El Tri are one of the true enigmas of this tournament, a team with the talent to advance, but one difficult to handicap thanks to several coaching changes during the last year.
Cameroon continued their pre-World Cup tradition of the players bickering with the nation's FA over the payments they would receive for playing in the tournament. The dispute slightly delayed their trip to Brazil, but now they will turn their attention to trying to get out of their group.
