In one of the most anticipated matches of the group stages, Spain will face the Netherlands in a rematch of the 2010 World Cup final.
While a Dutch win would not erase the disappointment of failing to claim their first World Cup four years ago, setting back Spain's campaign would be a nice feather in their cap at the very least. The question, however, is whether this is a strong enough team to deal with Spain, or Chile for that matter. There's no doubt the attack force of Robin van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben are a dangerous trio, but there's always worry they may not mesh. Add to that Robben's busy club season, and there's worry he may not be a full strength.
Spain v. Netherlands
For Spain, repeating as the world champions is the goal, but it’s not going to be easy. No European side has ever won the World Cup in South America, and there’s always the chance La Furia Roja might not have the same motivation. Coming out strong against the Dutch would send a strong message of their intent. Striker Diego Costa is healthy and ready to play, after struggling for the last month of the club season with hamstring issues.
Both sides won their two pre-tournament friendlies.
